Chitose Abe, the designer behind Sacai , has elevated deconstruction to an art form. Her signature style is inimitable: merging two wardrobe archetypes to create a new, fluid, and unexpected piece. At Sacai, the front tells one story, and the back reveals another, often more complex.

This season, classics are brilliantly reinvented. The trench coat merges with the nylon bomber jacket, while the structure of a poplin shirt is softened by backs in flowing pleated chiffon. Sacai masterfully plays with contrasting textures (wool versus nylon, cotton versus satin) to offer a sophisticated, utilitarian elegance that's always in motion.

About this selection

Chitose Abe founded Sacai in 1999 after years spent in Junya Watanabe's workshops, bringing with her a technical mastery of garment construction and a creative freedom that her formative years helped refine without ever confining her to a particular school or orthodoxy. The singularity of her approach lies in an intuition that is as simple as it is difficult to execute with the consistency and regularity that Sacai has maintained for a quarter of a century: that the archetypes of the female wardrobe, precisely because they are immediately recognizable and laden with cultural and emotional meaning, constitute the richest and most productive working material available to a designer seeking to produce something truly new rather than merely different.

The fusion of two garment archetypes into a single hybrid piece is Chitose Abe's foundational gesture and inimitable signature, one that makes every Sacai creation both familiar and unsettling, recognizable and impossible to categorize. The trench coat that reveals a nylon bomber at the back, the poplin shirt whose frontal rigor dissolves into ethereal pleated chiffon at the back, the tailored jacket whose sleeves belong to an entirely different piece: each hybridization is the result of extraordinarily precise technical construction, assembling two cutting logics and two material grammars that, a priori, have no reason to be combined, yet still producing a piece whose fluidity and formal coherence seem natural and inevitable. The textural contrasts between wool and nylon, cotton and satin, pleats and smooth surfaces create a visual and tactile depth that gradually reveals itself, making each Sacai piece an object whose details one continues to discover months after wearing it.
